This section consists of 4 parts, namely Multiple choice cloze (8 questions, where you must choose which word from four answers completes each of the 8 gaps in the text), Open cloze (8 questions, where you must complete a text with 8 gaps), Word formation (8 questions, where you need to use the right form of a given word to fill the gaps in a text containing 8 gaps), and Key Word Transformations (6 questions, where you must complete a sentence with a given word, so that it means the same as the first sentence).
This section consists of 4 parts, namely Multiple choice (6 questions, where you must read a text and answer multiple- choice questions with four options A, B, C or D), Cross-textmultiple matching (4 questions, where you must answer the questions by finding the relevant information in the text or texts).) Gapped text (6 questions, where you must read a text with sentences removed. You need to use the missing sentences to complete the text), and Multiple Matching (10 questions, where you must answer the questions by finding the relevant information in the text or texts).
This part is compulsory. You need to write an essay presented through rubric and short notes. The number of words should be between 220 and 260 words.
In this second part, you need to select one task from a choice of three. You are given a choice of topics and you must respond to one of them in the way specified.
This section consists of 4 parts:
- Part 1: Multiple choice (6 questions, where you hear short, unrelated extracts, each about 30 seconds, with either one or two speakers. You must choose an answer from A, B or C.
- Part 2: Sentence completion (8 questions, where you hear one speaker, and this part lasts about three minutes. You must write a word or short phrase to complete the sentences).
- Part 3: Multiple choice (6 questions, where you hear a recording and have to answer multiple-choice questions with four options).
- Part 4: Multiple matching (10 questions, where you hear five short extracts. There are two matching tasks focusing on the gist and the main points of what is said, the attitude of the speakers and the context in which they are speaking, etc.).
This section consists of four parts:
- Part 1: The interview: This part lasts about 2 minutes. The examiner asks each candidate questions about themselves
- Part 2: Long turn: This part last about 4 minutes. The candidates are each given some visual and written prompts and the examiner will ask you to talk about these for about a minute. You are asked to give a short response after your partner has finished their ‘long turn’.
- Part 3: Collaborative task: This part consists of two questions and lasts about 4 minutes. The candidates must discuss a task together. The candidate is given some spoken instructions and written stimuli for a discussion or decision-making task and you discuss these prompts with your partner.
- Part 4: Discussion: This part lasts about 5 minutes. The candidates offer opinions relating to the task they have just completed in Part 3. The examiner will join in with their discussion.
Extra practise exercises to further prepare you for the exam.
Official practice exams to get you ready for exam day.
